Dear Sir / Madam,
Memo on Wound Dressing and Removal of Surgical Suture Charges
Greetings from Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad (PruBSN).
2. Referring to correspondence from Ministry of Health’s Medical Practice Division with reference number KKM.600-8/37/11 JDL 3 (46), the first paragraph of the letter stated that, “Taking into consideration the common practice of wound dressing by different specialties and other countries, wound dressing is considered a part of consultation and is not chargeable separately. However, wound dressing can be charged separately when it is performed as a sole procedure under general anesthesia, especially in pediatric patients or when it is stipulated in specific sections of the PHA 13th Schedule.”
3. The second paragraph of the letter quoted that, “We recommend that medical practitioners adhere to the 13th Schedule and not the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Medical Procedures and Services Nomenclature (MPSN) and Schedule of Relative Values, 5th Edition when charging for surgical suture removal procedures. Medical practitioners are only permitted to charge for surgical suture removal procedures for specific disciplines listed in the 13th Schedule. Other surgical removal charges cannot be charged separately.”
4. In conclusion, wound dressing and sutures removal are not chargeable unless stipulated as stated above. Therefore, we request your kind assistance to cascade this information to all your doctors and relevant departments. We look forward to your better management in handling the above matters in providing the best services to PruBSN’s certificate holders. You may contact PruBSN Medical Management hotline 03-27783872 at if you have further questions.
